Vilka företag är duktiga på att driva projekt?

I vår vardag möter vi en hel del olika verksamheter, där vi kan se skillnader i hur man väljer att organisera och driva projekt. Ett bra exempel på att ha framgångsrikt infört en gemensam modell och ett gemensamt arbetssätt globalt i sina projekt är SKF – ett av de kundföretag som utmanar oss i Wenell och som vi har glädjen att samarbeta med.

Johan Human är chef för Group Project Management inom SKF och i några videos som vi har gjort tillsammans berättar han vad som har varit framgångsfaktorerna i deras arbete.

There’s a phenomenon called Learning to Make it Stick within SKF. Could you elaborate a bit on what that is?

Yeah, we have the terminology called LIDP, i.e. Learning Implementation Development Plan. It’s a bit different than the normal approach where you just get on a training and you get a ticket saying you’ve attended or you’ve been on a training. You get back to the organisation and it doesn’t really stick.Because you don’t use it. So what we’ve done is that we’ve drone a bit different approach and before you come to the training there’s a little questionnaire that gets done and it s done by Wenell. So we actually can see what level of people are coming to the training so that we know we get the right people to the training, firstly, and also you need to be nominated in som instances to get on this training, so it should be part of your development plan overall in the company. And then what you do ehn you’ve gone through the questionnaire you tend the training. It’s also very comprehensive the training you attend. and there’s a lot of work that gets done there, and you have to bring something to the training so you have to bring you’re little project or whatever it is you work on.

Then, after the training you don’t just get a certificate and then you disappear and we hope you’re gonna do a good job. You actually have to do something before you get that certificate.And that’s where you the real work starts. Over a course of three months you’re going to be coached and mentored by Wenell or the training partner that we have, which is Wenell in this case. And they’re going to work with the individual to make sure what they’ve learned at the training session is being applied, either in a real work situation or in the team that was formed in the training session. And if you don’t have a real life implementation that you have to do for a project, you would be assigned to this team and you would help populate this workbook — we have a workbook that you fill in. Then at a certain point in time the trainer would then come in and have a look, how has this been done, did people understand what needs to be done, is there any gap that needs to be supported any further. And then, only after that, you get a certificate that we will sign off on. So the period that you get coached and supported by Wenell is not only for the three day or three and a half day period that you go on. It’s a little bit more. Therefor we have this terminology: training that sticks.

That sounds quite ambitious.

Yes it is, but we have seen that it is a very good way of working.It’s a good way, once again, of cultivating anad embedding culture in an organisation, so that you don’t come on the training, you get stuck in your day-to-day routine and you forget what you’ve learned.And in four or five months you get put in a position where you don’t remember what you’ve done. But if you continue after the training to actually do it in a real life situation and then you get certified, we’ve seen that the access rate on that has been much higher,and people feel also that they can actually practice what they’ve done during the training afterwards.
